Capturing Colors Around The World

July 14, 2012 by Caroline Eaton 11 Comments

We were tagged by LandingStanding to enter the capture the color contest by TravelSupermarket. Seeing as we have over 12,000 pictures on Flickr, it’s been very tough to sort through and find the ones that best exemplify each color.

Yellow

Thailand, or “The Land of Yellow Robes” as many foreigners call it, is a country where Buddhism is everywhere. These golden yellow Buddha statues can be found on nearly every street corner in every shop all over the country. Although you see them everywhere, the golden yellow color always stands out and catches your eye as you walk through the streets.

Blue

The sky and water’s various shades of blue blend together to create a never-ending horizon. This view of the Gili Islands from our approaching boat made our jaws drop not just because of the bright and deep blues that danced around us, but the three tiny islands in the distance. There are no tall buildings or sky scrapers to show off, no hilly mountains, not even a paved road. These islands are surrounded by the blues around them and highlighted by the simplicity and ease of being nothing more than a small piece of land in the middle of the ocean. This is a blue worth making the trip to see for yourself.

Red

The lady in red. From her sassy shoes to her stylish hat we watched this young girl walk down the street of the Lao New Year parade in Luang Prabang with more confidence and spunk than anyone. Despite the colorful decoration and the parade music, this little girl is what caught our eye. The girl in red, who will one day dream of being in the Lao New Year parade herself among the other chosen princesses.

Green

Inside each of these small berries is a coffee bean. Each bean is picked, processed, dried and finally roasted to varying degrees depending on your desired taste. An integral start to our morning begins in this small green berry picked at a small coffee plantation in Bali, Indonesia and shipped halfway around the world to where we drink it in the US of A.

White

You have to wonder what you will find if you drive out to the middle of nowhere. What will it sound or smell like? This was the closest to the middle of nowhere we have been. In Etosha Game Reserve in Namibia you can drive out onto a 120 km long dry lakebed. The bright blue sky contrasts against the stark white mineral filled ground and your eyes go on forever searching for the other side. If you’re lucky enough to be the only people out there, the only sound you hear is the wind.

Our nominations for the contest:

  1. Round We Go
  2. Neverending Voyage
  3. Man vs. World
  4. A Couple Travelers
  5. Backpack of Memories

Can’t wait to see what great photos they come up with!

Nice work! I really really love that white one! Would make an amazing poster.

The hardest part by far of doing this contest is just searching through all of your photos and trying to pick… we picked 3-5 for each color and then really struggled to pick.

It was really hard. We’ve been trying to go through all of our photos and pick our favorites, and I don’t think we’ve gotten past Indonesia yet, and that was in February!

Everyone’s saying white but I have to go with yellow. I like the angle and the color. Thanks for nominating us!
