October 29, 2012 by Caroline Eaton 20 Comments

We can’t say enough amazing things about Thai food. It is everything you can ask for in food – meat of all kinds, the spiciest chilis, and the sweetest fruits for all for cheap prices along the streets. We aren’t experts on Thai food, but we know what tastes delicious and leaves us wanting more.

You might go to Thai restaurants back home and think you like Thai food, but if you’ve never gone beyond Pad Thai, you’re in for a treat! We’ve listed out our favorite foods here and encourage you to find and try them all!

I really hope Thai food is what it’s cracked up to be. We’ve been very disappointed with the “street food” in China, Korea, AND Japan (though Japan had really decent restaurant food). Fingers crossed!

Thai food is amazing! We still dream about it… and this list that Traveling9to5 is perfect. Definiely try everything they recommend. The thai omelette is probably the greatest drunk food ever invented!

I can attest that drunk or sober, it’s always delicious. We even made our own (not as good) versions of Thai omelette when we were camping in Africa. We missed it so much.

Can’t lie, all that coconut usage excites me. That one fruit though – unreal!

We are going to have a real problem on our hands when we get home and there are no fresh coconuts. 🙂

These pictures definitely bring back good memories of the food there. You weren’t hesitant at all about eating some of the fresh fruits and vegetables? (about getting sick, I mean)

Not at all. We were totally fine when it came to street food in Thailand. Sure we heard all the warnings, but we ate tons of fresh fruits and vegetables and had no issues. Of course, YMMV.

I can honestly state that one has not lived until one has consumed street food in Thailand. Eating it every day for 10 days in June changed my life. I still crave it every day.
    Papaya salad…Khao Soi…Green Curry…ooooooohhhhhh………

Been living on a daily diet of street food for 3 weeks and counting. It really is mind blowing! The spiciest, sweetest, and cheapest meals I’ve ever eaten have all been in Thailand!
Always look for the sweatiest cook with the dirtiest pans and you’ll find the best prepared meals.

It’s true, so many places that you’d never think would be good have the best food. And you’d never know if you don’t try!

Yes! Khanom Krok (Coconut rice pudding), I miss it!

Dave, street food in China doesn’t have a chance when compared to Thailand, you are in for a treat.

This entire list is dynamite, but a guy in our hostel in KL gave us a mangosteen yesterday… first time trying it and it was soooo good! The white part looks kind of like garlic but is so tasty. Couldn’t believe we had never tried it before!

OMG I am drooling! I miss Thai food so much already. Mango sticky rice, curries, pad thai, and Tom Yum, were my favorites. We should whip up some recipes in Hawaii in January! Oh and I just tried Mangosteen fruit last week in Malaysia… Delicious!

I was teaching in Thailand for 2 months this year I miss the food so much it’s incredible! Explaining to people how fantastic it is compared to the food back in Chicago(which is still pretty good) is so hard. I think Thailand ruined me for life 🙂
